New Album Release: "Another Shot"

We've got a new album out! Released on Tuesday, December 6th, 2011, the new album "Another Shot" is an homage to our friends, our loves, current and past, and life moments both glorious and tragic.

The cover art is a photo of Jet City Crawl member Vern Oldham circa 1980. In a flash of creativity, we decided to include an alternate album cover inside, featuring Jet City Crawl member Clare Meehan circa 1986. It's switchable, depending on your mood! The artwork on the back of the cd (also seen at the top of this entry) features Vern and Clare circa one month ago. We at Jet City Crawl put great stock in not only hard copy music, but also in the artwork that comes with it. There's nothing quite like holding a cd or record in your hand, playing it, and looking at the people who made it, or the artwork they chose for that specific record. It's personal. We hope you like it.

We had a lot of great collaborators on this record: Jose Franco, John Hartman, and Patrick Rost all contributed their varied musical abilities to "Another Shot." We are so thankful for their friendship and their incredible talents! Also, we are thankful to our master graphic artist, Reagan Marshall, for his smashing Jet City Crawl logo design. We adore it!

If you would like to listen to our music, you can hear both our current album, "Another Shot," and our previous album, "Colorfornia," here. You can also purchase it, which would make us pleased as punch!

We hope you love our music as much as we loved making it.

Love to our Fans,
Vern and Clare

Name Change

Right before our record came out, we decided to change our name. We ditched LadyBoy because too many people were getting confused.

Recording Notes (For the Sake of a Lion)

We just finished recording a new song called "For the Sake of a Lion." We had a lot of fun working all day on it. As we were putting it together, it just started sounding better and better. We found that the recording sort of made itself. There are often some "go to" effects that people use that we had no need of. For instance, there is absolutely no reverb or delay in any part of the song. And for the recordists reading this, there is zero compression on the drums at the track level, only the mastering compressor is involved.

We're proud of this one. Listen good.

Writing the bridge for Summer

We love working with Patrick. Every time we get together, we get a little music lesson. He's really good at focusing and directing the music in a direction that seems obvious but we hadn't thought of.

Patrick was using his iPhone to record our creative session while writing the song Summer.

Here's a clip of the session. It's long but could be interesting.

French Lyrics and English Translation of Le Petit Chat

LadyBoy's new song, Le Petit Chat, is a song about a cat...in French (because everything sounds better in French)! If you're curious about the meaning, read on....

Le Petit Chat (French lyrics)

Le petit chat
Mon chat
Il est bien
Il est bien
Mon chat

Le petit chat,
Mon chat, marche sur les rues
de Paris de Paris de Paris

Le petit chat
Est marveilleux
Il est jeune
Il a faim
Mon chat

Mon chat
Je l’aime
Je l’aime
Mon chat

Le petit chat,
Mon chat, marche sur les rues
de Paris de Paris de Paris

Le petit chat,
Mon chat, marche sur les rues
de Paris de Paris de Paris
----------------

Le Petit Chat (The Little Cat--English Translation)

The little cat
My cat
He is good
He is good
My cat

The little cat,
My cat, walks the streets
of Paris of Paris of Paris

The little cat
Is marvelous
He is young
He is hungry
My cat

The little cat stops at the old cafe
And waits for a piece of cake

How does my little cat get what he wants?
He is not asking a lot, only very little
I have a lot of love, but no money
A cat cannot live on love

The little cat
My cat
I love him
I love him
My cat

The little cat,
My cat, walks the streets
of Paris of Paris of Paris

The little cat,
My cat, walks the streets
of Paris of Paris of Paris

The Concept

LadyBoy has been a long talked about project. At first, the idea was to be an anonymous duo. Photographs would include masks or hair over faces etc.... The songs could have been silly. The idea was to create a band that did not care but maybe would dish out some catchy tunes once in a while. However, once we got started it all changed.

We wrote a song together over a year ago. "Backtrack." It has been sitting around doing nothing even though we thought it was cool. Then, just a few weeks ago, we wrote a song with Patrick Rost and figured we should record it and start LadyBoy. The next song, "Someone Got the King" followed the next week and then we re-recorded "Backtrack." Pretty good start for three weeks.

So the idea of the band is this.
LadyBoy will write catchy songs that you will not be able to get out of your head. They could be corny, but they will always be good. As we write them and record them, we will share them for all fans to listen to. When there is enough material, a CD (album) will be released for purchase over the Internet. Then, we'll start all over again.

We are looking forward to a good quantity of good quality tunes. We hope you are too.
